“Moreno has a way of tuning into your pace, your fears, your strengths, and shaping each session to fit you perfectly.”

“Kite surfing with Moreno is an unforgettable experience done with care you rarely find. From the very beginning, it was clear I wasn’t just another student to him. The level of personal attention and thought he puts into his teaching is amazing. He creates a space where you feel safe, supported, and empowered. Just do it! You won’t regret it! I still take regular trips to Cabarete to kite.”

Kristin

“Moreno is the best teacher to start learning kitesurfing from scratch.”

"He was recommended to me by a friend, and I liked his patience and ability to explain things in an easy way. Moreno’s just the best! I’m hoping to be back in Cabarete soon!”

Amy Levesque

“I felt safe and well taken care of the entire time. Hoverony, my instructor, got me kitesurfing in just a few days!”

“I was recommended by a friend to take kitesurfing lessons with KLK. All classes were done with great security, and my instructor, Hoverony, was excellent, an experienced kitesurfer and very friendly. I was a complete beginner, and he was so patient and reassuring! I’m still surprised that I learned to kite so fast, and it was a GREAT experience all-around. I’m now able to kitesurf on my own, and I’m definitely coming back to Cabarete on my next vacation!”

Alba

“Moreno is a very good kitesurfing teacher for kids!”

“I’m an independent kiter, but I needed someone reliable to teach my children. All my kids have taken classes with him, and they learned a ton! He’s a very good teacher, and he’s also responsible, great at communicating, and always on time. His classes are really fun!”

VItaliy

“Moreno explained things over and over without getting annoyed and always corrected my mistakes in a way that actually helped me learn.”

“Kitesurfing lessons with Moreno are absolutely worth it. His patience and communication made a huge difference. You’ll learn fast, feel safe, and have a blast doing it. I’m totally addicted to kitesurfing at this point. Just landed my biggest jump at 7.1 meters and starting to get into kite loops now. Can’t get enough of it!”

Andrea D’Arrigo

“You’ll be missing out if you don’t take kitesurfing classes with Moreno.”

“He’s a very skilled and patient kitesurfing instructor. I’ve seen big improvements since I started taking classes with him as an intermediate rider, because Moreno makes everything very easy to understand and corrects my mistakes immediately!”

Catherine

“Moreno’s the best kitesurfing instructor I’ve ever had.”

"I’ve tried learning how to kitesurf with multiple instructors in different locations. Moreno was incredibly patient and attentive, and he made me feel very safe. He was super encouraging and positive, making the learning process REALLY fun, even when I was a bit scared. He was amazing at figuring out what I could tweak to improve, and he was the ONLY instructor who could finally get me riding, and QUICKLY! If you’re on the fence, DO IT. You’ll have the time of your life."

Christof

“If you’re thinking about taking kitesurfing lessons with Moreno, do it!”

“I took beginner kitesurfing lessons years ago, and finally made it to run upwind thanks to Moreno’s feedback. He offers great support, motivating feedback, and only gives you one thing at a time to improve. He was also super flexible with doing longer classes in good wind, which I appreciated!”

Gabriela

“I loved taking kitesurfing lessons with Moreno!”

"He was recommended by another kitesurfing instructor, and I had a wonderful experience. Moreno explained everything to me in a very patient way and helped me fix the mistakes I was making. I’m still a beginner, but I know I’ll continue to kite because I had a very positive experience learning. I highly recommend!"

Carmela Peres

“I was surprised by how much I improved during my kitesurfing lessons with Moreno!”

“A family member recommended taking kitesurfing lessons with KLK, and I’m so glad I did. Moreno was very observant and gave me specific advice on how to get better at kiting. He was also very easygoing and super fun!! I don’t live somewhere I could kitesurf, but I can’t wait to take another trip to Cabarete.”

Kitesurfing can be pretty intense, but you don’t need to be physically strong or an athlete to kiteboard. It’s helpful if you’re relatively fit, but the kite does most of the work once you learn proper technique. People of all shapes and sizes can learn how to kitesurf!

Is kitesurfing physically hard?

There's no perfect age to start. Anyone from teenagers to people in their 60s and 70s can do it. You should be physically able to handle the kite, comfortable in water, and motivated to learn. That’s all that matters!

What is the best age to start kitesurfing?

Most people need around 9 hours of lessons spread over 3-4 days to go from complete beginner to riding independently. Some pick it up in just 6 hours, and others need a bit more time. Everyone learns at their own pace!

We charge per hour, and give you a nice discount once you reach 9 hours.

How many lessons does it take to learn kitesurfing?

Cabarete Kiteboarding Lessons

The Faqs

Cabarete has consistent trade winds year-round, but the best conditions are December through August. Peak season (December-April) has the most reliable winds and perfect weather. Summer months are great too, with fewer crowds and stronger winds.

When to kitesurf in Cabarete?

After 9 hours of lessons, most people can ride independently. You can hire an assistant (expect to pay $10-15 an hour) to help you with set up & board rescue, but you typically won’t need an instructor anymore. With practice, you’ll get better and better over time and can eventually learn jumps and tricks.

How long does it take to get good at kiteboarding?

NO! Many people in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s kite and have a lot of fun. What matters more than your age is your fitness level, water confidence, and willingness to learn. Kitesurfing is actually much easier on your joints than many other sports. If you're reasonably fit and motivated, you can learn.

Am I too old to learn to kitesurf?

For two people, you get an instructor and an assistant (included in your price), so there's always someone with you. The instructor explains concepts, and the assistant helps you practice. We only do group lessons with people who already know each other (like a couple or families).

For groups larger than two, we add extra instructors or assistants to maintain personalized attention. Reach out to discuss the best setup for your group size.

How do you handle group lessons?

We typically start lessons at age 10-12, but it depends more on the child than their age. Kids need to weigh enough to control the kite, be able to follow safety instructions, and be comfortable in the water. We assess each young rider individually to make sure they're ready.

What’s the minimum age for kitesurfing lessons?

We teach primarily at Kite Beach, which is perfect for learning with its smaller water and steady winds. It’s the best place to learn how to kitesurf in Cabarete. However, if you’re staying closer to Cabarete Center, we can also come to you, but we recommend Kite Beach because of its superior conditions.

Where do you give kitesurfing lessons in Cabarete?

You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim, but you don't need to be an Olympic swimmer. You'll be wearing a life jacket during lessons, but solid swimming skills and water confidence are important for your safety and enjoying the experience.

Do I have to be a strong swimmer?

Good question! We want you to have the best possible experience, so we only go out when conditions are right for safe and productive learning. AKA, we won’t make you get in the water when the wind direction is wrong just to charge you for a lesson. If there’s no wind or the conditions aren’t right, we’ll reschedule the lesson.

What happens if there’s no wind?

Not really. It’s very dangerous, and you’d be putting yourself and others on the beach at risk. Plus, you’d need kitesurfing equipment, and no one is going to rent it to you if you don’t know how to kite.

Can I learn kitesurfing without lessons?

We recommend reaching out to us as early as possible, especially during peak winter months. We also have a ton of local knowledge and can help you plan your trip or coordinate logistics like airport pickup.

How far in advance should I reach out?

Most people start out a little nervous, but we’re experienced at helping you feel comfortable, relaxed, and safe. We go at your pace and create a supportive environment, and you can always ask a question if you don’t understand something!

What if I’m scared or nervous?

Just bring yourself, sunscreen, and a positive attitude! We provide all equipment, including a kite, board, harness, helmet, and life jacket. Wear something that you feel comfortable in, like a rashguard and shorts or a bikini that doesn’t slip easily.

What should I bring to my lesson?

Most days, the wind picks up in the afternoons, starting around noon and after. Sometimes it can be strong as early as 10 or 11 am, but don't expect morning lessons to be the norm.

What’s the best time of day for kitesurfing lessons in Cabarete?
